Dear Reader,

I hope the holidays went even better than you thought. I hope you spent quality time with your family and loved ones and that you are prepared for the new year.

Two days ago, I started to wonder about how this year went by so fast and what things I wish I could have done. It kind of made me feel a little overwhelmed, so I decided it was time to do my yearly reset—to reflect on how this year actually went and to feel good about all the things I got to do.

If you feel the same, or you just want to look back on this year and prepare for 2025, today’s blog post is for you. I am going to share my reset routine, which I’ve created for myself over the years, and how it has helped me achieve my goals.

The Let-Go List
Every year, I write a list of five things I want to leave behind and let go of. This can really be anything, from the smallest habits to big things in life. For example, I like to divide these five things into categories: emotions, habits, finances, relationships, and lifestyle. So, for example, the list could sound like this: I want to let go of anger, takeout, impulse purchases, people who do not make me feel appreciated, and spending too much time on social media.

With this, you can create a mindset focused on how you want to develop yourself to make your life happier.

Cleanse Your Life
This is a more complex side of the reset, but the main idea is to get rid of everything that no longer serves you. I like to think of it as a metaphor for the baggage I do not want to carry into the new year.

To make sure that doesn’t happen, I deep clean the space I live in, washing the curtains, sheets, pillows, blankets, and every textile decoration. The cleanse continues with getting rid of things I’ve collected throughout the year. This can be anything you feel you have too much of or things you can’t use because of the surrounding clutter. Over the past two days, I cleaned out our laundry/storage room and got rid of a lot of useless items. I’m telling you—it’s so worth it! Stepping into that room today feels so much better and more organized.

Continuing with clearing out spaces, I also like to do a wardrobe refresh. I do this seasonally because I always like to upgrade my wardrobe for a new season (this is just the impact of being a fashion girlie). But if you’re not like me, a yearly reset is the perfect time to go through your clothes and donate or sell the ones you no longer use. Yesterday, I collected a big pile of clothes to give to charity. It makes me feel good knowing someone else will enjoy these pieces, but it also made me realize how much I consumed this year. I need to work on reducing my consumption—not just with clothes but in other areas as well. This realization led me to set a new goal for 2025.

The last pillar of the cleanse for me involves a computer/phone cleanse. In this section, I go through my computer, organize my files, delete expired ones, and create folders to maintain order. I do the same for my phone—deleting pictures, unused apps, and anything else that no longer serves me.

This is an important step, as we spend so much time on our digital devices. It’s nice to have an organized space there too.

Reset Your Finances
First and foremost, create a budget planner right now if you haven’t already. Reviewing my finances was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It allows me to save money, track my habits and purchases, and plan for the future.

I also like to set yearly financial goals. Knowing exactly what I want helps me work toward those goals more effectively. If you specify what you want to achieve, it will plant a seed in your mind and motivate you even more. My advice is to create specific and feasible goals, then write them down.

Feel-Good List
This practice is perfect for overcoming the overwhelming feeling of starting a new year. This list is about the things you once dreamed of that are now a reality.

For me, this could include:

  • A healthy relationship
  • My own flat
  • Moving out of my parents’ house
  • Three years in therapy
  • Starting my career
  • Writing my blog
  • Becoming financially independent

These are things I don’t think about daily, but they’re true accomplishments. My 15-year-old self would be incredibly happy to know all of this happened in just five years. Writing this list helps me realize how lucky I am and fills me with gratitude.

Write your own feel-good list—it can include anything important to you. Let it remind you that there’s no such thing as being too early or too late. I hope this list will make you feel good about yourself and give you motivation to do things for your future self.

Saying Goodbye to 2024
Before entering a new year, reflection becomes important. I like to write a summary of how 2024 went by asking myself the following questions:

  • What goals did I set for myself? Did I achieve them?
  • What habits did I commit to?
  • Were there any new experiences in my life?
  • Did I take any trips?
  • What was this year about?
  • What did I learn this year?
  • What accomplishments am I most proud of?
  • What was my biggest lesson?

These journaling prompts are perfect for clarifying where we are in life and how we want to move forward. They’re also amazing for self-reflection and self-improvement, helping you clarify your feelings and desires for your future self. Take your time with these questions, as they can offer valuable insights and a comprehensive view of your life.

The Fun Part
If you’ve embraced the reset process and want to do even more, here are some fun additions to your routine:

  1. Write a letter to your future self, which you can read during your 2026 reset. This can be heartfelt, funny, or anything you wish.
  2. Create a vision board. I made one for 2023 and 2024, and it served as my computer wallpaper. Seeing my goals daily kept me motivated and focused. Creating a vision board is a fun and helpful way to visualize your aspirations for the year.

I guess that’s all about my reset routine—all I wanted to share. I hope this post motivates you to do a reset and reflect on your life, even if just a little bit.

I wish each and every one of my readers a successful, creative, fun, memorable, and beautiful new year filled with lots and lots of love!
