Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression and individualism, but everyone makes mistakes, even the most stylish people you know or see on social media. Fashion mistakes are the kind that happen every once in a while, often when we want to explore something new because we’re bored with our wardrobe. In today’s post, I’m going to highlight the three most common styling mistakes and how we can avoid them by using these simple hacks.
Wearing the Wrong Size
I can’t emphasize enough the importance of finding clothing that fits you well. Remember that sizes vary from brand to brand, so don’t focus solely on the numbers—pay attention to how the clothes fit and suit your body type. By focusing on how a piece actually looks on you, you can avoid impulse purchases and be more selective, trying on more clothes until you find the perfect fit. Trying on clothes is one of the most important aspects of successful shopping, and it’s a great opportunity to understand which proportions and styles flatter you the most.
This also means that if you think a shirt would look better on you in an oversized version, don’t hesitate to size up. Conversely, if you want to make a dress look more fitted, consider buying a size smaller than usual. This is where styling comes into play, so be bold, think for yourself, and choose what makes you feel best in that particular piece of clothing. Make sure to explore your options so you can find the perfect piece without compromise.

Following Trends Blindly
In high school, I definitely had moments where I thought being on-trend was more important than making a look personal, so I tried to follow every single trend to stay fashionable. This is a terrible mistake, both financially and personally, and it can lead to a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear. Finding your personal style is much more timeless, financially responsible, and it saves you plenty of time when dressing up. Another important aspect that trends often overlook is different body types.
This summer, jorts (jean shorts) were a huge trend, and although I’m usually not a big fan of shorts, I thought I’d give them a try, thinking they might suit me better. I ordered a pair from Zara, and when I tried them on at home, I just smiled at myself in the mirror, acknowledging that they simply weren’t for me—and that’s totally fine. I sent them back the next day without any regrets. So, while it’s a good idea to give trends you like a chance, make sure your personal style comes first. If a trend doesn’t work for you, don’t be bitter. Try to incorporate trendy items into your wardrobe in a way that reflects your own style.

Not Using Accessories
I talk about accessories often on the blog, but I do it with intention. Leaving out accessories from an outfit is similar to cooking without spices—you can eat it, but it’s not as enjoyable or memorable. Finding the right accessories can be an exciting journey toward discovering your personal style, and they can make your outfits unique and remarkable without requiring extra effort. I have jewelry that I received from my family, and it means so much to me when I wear it. I also love searching for new pieces when I travel, so each item has its own story and memory, which makes them special.
I believe accessories can tell a lot about the person wearing them and the story behind their look—that’s what I call personal style. So keep experimenting with different pieces that resonate with you. Whether it’s sunglasses, bracelets, anklets, earrings, necklaces, hair accessories, or other small details, the possibilities are endless.
