Unlocking Thrift Shopping Secrets for Sustainable Style | CallHerStylish

Perhaps we all have that one friend, who always gets to thrift the best possible things at the market, and to be honest it can be kind of devastating for the one, who got nothing. I love the action of thrifting, going somewhere with the idea to get something unique and timeless for ourselves, but sometimes it is not as easy as it seems. It can be amazing to explore thrift stores and markets in different countries, but finding things that worth it are not so easy. Thrifting can be tiring at times, if we do not have any good associations with these memories, it can feel useless with time, and then we are going to lose interest in sustainable fashion. Although this definition is a decisive one, especially in the 21st century, we do not know the secrets of success for it.

How can we be successful thrifters? What is the key to thrift good stuff? How can we be sustainable and stylish at the same time?

I made my research to answer these questions and help You find the best possible bargains at the thrift shop.

  1. Be in the mood : This literally means that, do not go thrifting if you are not feeling it. The whole concept behind this is to get excited about vintage things, and you have to be in a creative mood to succeed and visualize.
  2. Have a list: Before you go shopping, go through your wardrobe and check what kind of clothes, accessories or decorations do you need. Maybe get some inspiration on social media to explore other options. This helps to prevent to get similar things to what you already have.
  3. Decide mindful about what time you go: If you have a local thrift store around you, find out what time they get new clothes, and the best is to go on those they, more likely in the morning, where hopefully the place is not too crowded.
  4. Look through the whole store: You never know where you find the good stuff, take your time and take a look at everything.
  5. Forget the brand: Only decide on the material, do not think about the brand, as you were buying new.

There are also several ways to shop secondhand online, where you do not have to stick to time or place, and you can get in touch with the customers and sellers both. Online secondhand shops are definitely the best way to sell and shop your stuff.

Here are a few online shops where you can start your sustainable way to style: Go Thrift, Thred Up, Vinted and there are several accounts on Instagram for fast fashion and for designer vintage stuff both.

Remember to have an idea about what do you want to get, look for special pieces, unique pieces and get the vibes of thrifting during that 🙂
